I layer ceramic materials; clays, slips and glaze. I explore how materials respond, resisting or yielding as I build, scrape, clad, and fire. I’m interested in surface contour and texture as a metaphor for life’s rewards and challenges.Like our bodies, shaped by life events and the environment, clay has a memory, it reveals fragility and strength. When I carve and attach sprigs I am drawn to decorations and effects that reflect my interests and unconscious preoccupations.
