Path and Inspiration
After two decades working exclusively designing textiles for luxury fashion, Cheetham returned to ceramics. His new work combines throwing and hand building techniques, coloured slips and multi-layered glazes that exploit and exaggerate the imperfections of the material. The pieces lie between function, domestic and object. They have purpose, intention and are accessible.Process and Practice
I approach my ceramic practice with many of the same inspirations and design techniques I use for textiles, such as using ikats, ombres, spots, stripes, and gestural hand painting. Although I feel they can stand alone, my pieces are really intended to sit together in groups like a collection or season. I'm working with a considered palette where all the colour pieces will relate and activate each other, blending and contrasting gathered together with the more textural feeling monochrome pieces.
