Path and Inspiration
I am a Black British mixed-media artist who specialises in creating sculptural ceramics, gestural drawings and abstract paintings.As a poet and former dancer, my ceramic work tends to convey movement through sensual forms as I explore themes such as, how we inhabit the different stages of aging.Some of my influences include the works of Jack Whitten, Alvin Ailey, Barbara Hepworth and Japanese pottery e.g. Bizen ware.Process and Practice
I tend to create thrown and hand built sculptural/decorative stoneware ceramics that begins as a sketch, a watercolour painting or a collage. Exploring different colour combinations and forms.I then work intuitively with the clay body to follow the design as I develop the final piece. It's like a moving meditation.I've been creating ceramics at The Kiln Rooms since May 2022.
