Path and Inspiration
Blown away by the colourful ceramics emerging from Dartington Pottery in the 1980s, I completed an apprenticeship there in the mid 90s. I went on to work for lustreware potter, Julian Bellmont and then pursued my own work in Italy. Passionate about acquiring the skills needed to throw pots, inspired by colour from art to textiles, interiors, buildings & the natural world, I have continued to pursue the making of functional pots whose form and colour are harmonious, that bring daily joy.Process and Practice
All my work is thrown on the wheel using white, earthenware clay. I use the same base glaze for all my colours and add a mixture of stains to the glaze to achieve exactly the desired tone and hue that I'm looking for.
Glaze is poured into and brushed onto pots, as well as pots being dipped into glaze.I teach pottery workshops to individuals and groups and love this aspect of my practice.
