Path and Inspiration
I first handled clay at the age of thirteen and was fortunate to be encouraged by inspirational teachers. Clay has played a major role in my life ever since. I trained to teach ceramics and enjoyed many years in London schools until my retirement. I am now able to pursue my work full-time and share a studio close to Portobello Road.Process and Practice
My work is largely hand built and coiling, rolling by hand, continues to be my favourite technique because of its complete tactile involvement. I am intrigued by geometric designs and enjoy exploring contrasts in both form and decoration. A body of work in terracotta using matt black and barium glazes has continued to influence my work, as has my interest in West African textiles.
